Okay heres a pictures of the displays with each switch set to autofocus, I did see the video of how to set auto focus and tried the live view on the info button but it still wont allow me to switch between modes. Im hoping these pics may show something out of the ordinary, thanks so far for all the suggestions :)

From what I see, it seems that your auto-focus is NOT turned on. Maybe your switch is not working...

Here is a shot of my info screen and I have circled the info you should be getting when the auto-focus is activated.

One more thing is that your camera setting seems to be on Automatic. Have you tried other modes?
Hope this helps.

Hi all thankyou so much for all your help and advice, just spoken to Nikon tech support and it seems its a genuine fault on the camera :( It was due to go back to Nikon for a second time for oil on the sensor issue, so i'll kill two birds with one stone hopefully!!

Is your focus selector in the auto position?

If it is, then maybe try working it on-off a few times to see if there might be some kind of dirt preventing it from working.
Otherwise, trip to the shop will be necessary.

I'm also wondering if the little button that gets pushed in while changing AF-S AF-C, AF-A is stuck since he said he can't switch between them.
