Hello everyone! I'm Donny from Ocean Springs MS. I put on an animated Christmas light show and have spent a few years trying to get descent photos and video. I recently purchased a d3300. While I know this isn't the top of the line unit, it's what was in my budget. Anyway, I look forward to being a part of the community!

Howdy Donny and welcome to Nikonites!

We've got several people around your area ... I'd be surprised if I haven't already seen your light show. :D My in-laws live in Louisiana and parents are up in Tennessee, so I get pretty close to the area too.

Welcome to Nikonites! I think you'll have a blast here with us! :D
I agree strongly with my buddy Weebee! There is nothing at all wrong with the D3300. I had the D3100 and it took great photos. :)

Hi Donny

The 18-55mm is a good lens. Perfect as a "walkabout", street scenes, the odd portrait, maybe not quite so perfect for low light work. Spend some time with your camera to determine what type of photography inspires you & work out which lens would help.

Once you start looking that's when the wallet starts to tremble! I'd imagine with what you do. You'd do well with a 35mm or a 50mm prime.
