Hello! Moving from Canon looking at Nikon

Hi everyone! My first DSLR experience was shooting with my friend's old D70 and ended up with Canon (20D, 60D, 7D & 6D) for many years but moving on and giving Nikon a try :)

Hello Mike!

I'm debating on the D610 vs D750. I shoot primarily portrait & real estate so speed/AF isn't a huge concern as sports/bird photography isn't something I generally do. But the 6D was lacking in the AF field so D610 would provide that.

Just not sure if paying $600+ more for the D750 is worth it.

Plenty of very practical comparisons have been made between the two: D610 vs D750. There are significant differences between the two, but whether or not they're worth paying for, based on what you do, is another matter of course.

Welcome!

I wish I had some practical advice on your D610 vs D750 decision, but I am a D7100/7200 user. I will say that the D750 should be better for focusing in low light, if that is a major concern.

Interesting comments. I shoot real estate professionally, and find the 6D to have amazing low-light AF. It practically focuses in the dark, which comes in handy when you shoot a house with the electric shut down.

I recently made the switch. Not because I was unhappy with Canon, or necesarilly wanted to switch but only because I was afforded an interesting opportunity to go with Nikon for a pretty good cost savings.

So far, I am very very happy with my new gear. There's nothing I can complain about and nothing I can say I miss from my Canon gear. I was pretty much torn between the 6D and the D750 before I snapped up the D750 kit. From what I can tell the D750 has quite a few technical advantages over the 6D at the same price point. Image quality is EXCELLENT. I have yet to be dissapointed by any of the lenses I've acquired thus far as well.

The only thing that took getting used too was the different button placement and menus that differ between the two brands but that's a fairly quick and easy learning curve if you get a few good days out in the field with the camera.

Bottom line is this.... You won't be dissapointed or regret making the switch. Nikon's current offerings are fantastic!

Yes there's no problem there but when I was shooting events or whenever trying to use non-center AF point, my 6D had hard time focusing unless there was enough light. I loved the 6D for astrophotography as well but hopefully buying either body won't be a regret. I'm probably going to get the D610 and save the extra money for a lens or two.

That was one of the big draw with Nikon. I always kept my option open and waited. I felt the 6D is lacking "for what I do". I would've considered getting the 5DMKIII if the price was right but just seems too high for its features. In low light situations whether or not using off camera lights, non-center point with 6D was driving me crazy at times.

Better dynamic range and AF was a big draw with the D610 & D750. Dual card slot & slightly bigger resolution doesn't hurt either.

Just to be fair, the D750 is a $2000 body, the Canon 6D is a $1400 camera. I don't consider them the same price point, but YMoneyMV :)

Currently speaking, yes. When I started looking at the two, the 6D body was $1,999.

Canon had no option but to lower the price of the 6D with Nikon offering a few much more advanced bodies in the same price realm.

Thank you all! I'm sure I'll be here frequently. I did go buy the D610 from Cameta and ordered 85mm f1.8

I'm going to rent the 14-24mm this week to see how they do as I do some real estate photography on the side and would double as a great astrophotography lens!
