Welcome to Nikonites and it's a shame your wife has already put you on a camera diet, but that just means you have to shop a whole lot smarter. After a while you will start to want the bigger shinier newer camera body. Two things matter equipment wise (the rest is technique) a good sensor, which you have covered with that body. Now for the most important part... the glass. An ok body will take spectacular pictures with quality lenses. The best body will only take so-so images with cheap glass. Always invest your money in your glass.

I have visited Spokane several times, and found the area quite agreeable, but it has been over 15 years since I've been there.

I guess I need to update my visitor's pass.

I was just looking at Adobe Photoshop. I see that a lot of folks copyright their photos with copyright watermarks. I am computer ignorant. So I've been looking up apps that could assist me with this down the road. Thanks again for the welcome.

Look up Adobes Photoshop CC program. It's a monthly subscription but is totally worth it. Taking the photo is only half the process these days. While yes you can get it right in camera. It never hurts to do some form of processing.

I use TSR Watermark (https://www.watermark-image.com/). There is a free version (basic), when you download, you have to scroll way down the page for the free one.

Welcome to the forum from central Saskatchewan Canada 🍁, I've been to Spokane a couple times. Nice place. Gear can get addicting. I've been all over it seems like with gear, first was a Fujifilm finepix HS20, Canon T3i, Sony a57, Nikon D7000, Nikon D300s, Nikon D7100 (my favorite), Sony a7 and now back to Nikon with a full frame D600. And many lenses later, All in about 6 years! It can get very expensive and addicting, I could have stuck with the D7000 and it would still be a fine camera.
I recommend Lightroom for processing software. I find its easier to use than Photoshop. (have both)
Enjoy your new camera and enjoy the forum!

Thank you all again. I did join the Photoshop creative cloud for PS/LR on the forums recommendations. I have about three more days until my D5500 shows up.

Hello from Grant County! Enjoy your new gear. I'm not very active here, but am doing a little research today because I'm getting close to upgrading my D3100 to a D610. I'm just trying to decide which lenses to buy first and whether to sell my DX setup.
