Hey everyone, I'm completely new to photography & have only had a point n shoot camera since I was in 9th grade or something. I'll be buying a D3100 by the end of next month & am VERY excited about it!! =D

I'm a Cosmetology/College student & hope to get used to the camera more so I can try to start modeling. I also want to learn all the tricks to my new camera so I can take pictures of my clients hair & show my work better.

So if anyone has important stuff to know, please share~

On your camera you can control the Aperture (lens opening size) and/or Shutter speed (amount of time light hits the sensor) to get the proper exposure. On the dial it is either A (aperture priority) or S (shutter speed priority). If you use the A setting and set it to a lower number (like 4.5 or lower) it will make the background more blurry and keep the person sharp. This separates the subject from the background and will help show off your hair and makeup work....
