That's what I want to do with this new body/lens, due to the price is obviously much, much higher than my d3100. What type of warranties come with used/refurbished products?
Well, in Britain if you buy from an independent dealer, you'll generally get 6-12 months guarantee, but obviously i can't speak for the U.S. Of course, eBay or free ads come at more of a risk. However, i did buy a second hand D90 from ebay many many moons ago, and it was fine.

typically....a 90 day warranty....but I think you can purchase additional coverage. If you receive it, and it's not acceptable, you can send it back within a week or so. I've never had to, or wanted to, and I have bought all 3 of the Holy Trinity zooms used. They were in excellent condition.

Question for you guys. Checked out the sites everyone stated and about the new vs used and warranties. Then I came across this: Nikon D610 DSLR Camera (Body Only)

All the bodies I've seen start around 1450 ish. Any suggestions with this one? It looks legit I'm thinking about buying it asap lol. New for 1150? Anyone ever see this? Thoughts?

Welcome

I have a D5100 - just a step over the D3100 you have and fully enjoyed it for a couple of years - but yearned for more (a photographic affliction that yearning for more).

Last May after going back and forth ad infinitum on the merits of the D7100 vs D610 I took the FF plunge and bought a D610. My dear wife gave me a 60mm FF lens for my 60th birthday and I've been shooting FF since. Don't regret it but it was no easy decision and those who shot with their D7100 seem to love it to pieces. I was tempted by some great deals on the D7000 (and even looked at a D300) but for a few hundred more I think the upgraded features of the D7100 would be well worth it. I was surprised to see that the D610 on sale at Best Buy in the USA recently is now selling for what I paid for it in Canada last May (about $1800 CDN). Nikon did drop the price and with the D750 now on the shelves I'm thinking great deals on the D610 can be had. And the D600 can be had cheaper - often after the free factory service. And if you do get one that has not had the free servicing to fix that nasty problem that occured on some copies you can still get it serviced free by Nikon. That would be the cheapest way to a present generation FF camera. Once serviced they are as good as the D610 (or so I've been lead to believe).

Warning - it can be a costly step, going FF. For while it can still shoot with DX lenses (it can be set to automatically detect the DX lens and auto-crop to the smaller frame - or you can chose the 'port hole' view) - you will want to get a FF lens collection. If buying new they are more pricey than DX for the most part. But upside of the D610 over the D5100 (and your D3100) is that it will auto-focus with older lenses. And there is a truckload of "vintage" lenses to chose from.

I had two FF lenses from my film days - they now have taken many more pictures mounted on my D610 than they ever did on my F60.

I picked up a 50mm "nifty fifty" for about $110 - wow - that lense lives on my camera. Sharpe - light - low light - great walk about lens. But it is a prime so you must use the two foot zoom system - if you want a wider view take two steps back.

Had yearned for one of those super zooms - but at best they were like $900 - $1,500 and thats the consumer versions. Picked up a vintage Tamron 200-400mm for $144 in December - having some fun with it. It has its distractors but I like to play with it.

Let eBay be your friend and you can get some great deals. Many photograph stores sell used through eBay (check out posts by Roberts for example) or shop used on line (I like KEH.com - got a couple of less expensive FF vintage lenses there). And in the back corner of some photo shops there is the used counter.

Unless of course money is no object . . .

But many still are shooting great shots with the D3100 (my daughter-in-law has one - and we enjoy her family snaps of our grandson immensely).

Remember the best camera of all is the one that is at hand when that "kodak" moment happens.
