You started off with a Great Camera. The D5100 is used by MANY photographers here including me. Look at the links below this post and there is lots of info in them. The Nikon Digittutor is really good.
Be sure and post some of your photos for us to see. Here is a guide to help you get started uploading here.
Guidelines to adding a photo to your post.
1. Resize photo to 1000px on the long side.
2. Resolution set to 72px
These guidelines will be good for viewing on a computer but will not be good for printing. This will help safeguard your copyright.
