Howdy. My name is Jen and this year I quit my fancy software testing day job to do photography full time. It started as a side business but took off fast. I'm working so hard and making less money, but I'm incredibly happy to call myself a "pro".
I started with photography in grade school. My 5th grade teacher had a dark room and taught interested students all about photography. This was back in the old days, 1980.
I kept up with photography until college, when it got too expensive buy paper and chemicals on a student's budget.
So for 10 years I worked in social work, then 10 years in IT. It was my husband who encouraged me to get a DSLR and take up serious photography again.
And a year later, I'm doing it full time. I specialize in portraits using natural light, candid shots show real human emotion. I also do weddings, corporate work, and starting in January I'll be teaching photography at the local senior center.
I'm excited to check out this forum. I just upgrade from Nikon DX to FX. Got the D3 used, along with 4 lenses. Stoked to start playing around with the new equipment, and I'll be using these forums to guide me.
