Going pro on the cheap

I think this thread is about a "what if" type of game. Not that anyone wants to actually become a pro like described. Just what if you had the money listed, could you go pro, and if so what would you need to buy in the budget allotted. In other words this thread is just a game, and not really anybody asking for help.

Nothing wrong with, or anything stopping a person, from making extra money on the side with their camera. I would try to avoid weddings, and other such "lifetime" event gigs though, as they cannot easily be repeated if at all.

Casual portraits, baby photos, family portraits and such can always be done a second go if the first did not go so well. There are some amazing pieces of work, very very salable work, being done every day with less than professional gear.

But, since you have a good job that takes care of your financial needs why worry about making money at photography? Just asking.

I wish they had something like it for the US! But you can find a UK Nikon pro group you can join if you live in the uk and if you qualify by owning some of the pro products! I think there is a group like this for Canada too! :D

There's a Nikon Professional Services group for the US. To qualify you need two pro bodies, 3 Nikkor lenses, a reference from another member and "Professional Work Information", which I'm sure is all a matter of interpretation for someone self-employed. The qualifications changed from 2 bodies of which at least one was a pro body back in 2012.

Well since I'm not a pro photographer making a living as a full time photographer, I'll never qualify. Besides I only have one pro Nikon camera, that's if the pro camera list is the same as the uk version! Oh well. :(
Thanks bud for the info! I appreciate it my friend! :D
