Whilst not disputing how good the D8XX range are it would be good to see how good this lens is on a D750

The D810 has 2 things going for it - more pixels and no OLPF. I suspect that the D750 would be almost as impressive, but extra pix and no OLPF will give it a leg up if you want to crop all the way in.

I'll test it next time but it's not going to make that much difference. I've taken plenty a sharp shot with the D750 even at 100%. It can never win at lower ISO but the moment light goes down, its ISO performance makes up for the pixel and filter disadvantage. The D810 isn't bad during low light but it ain't no D750 performance.

I took it to the test after dot-tuning it on the D750. The light conditions were different and the duckling was a bit closer but it's as good as it got. Processed the same way I do the D810 shots.

Cropped down each time until 100%:

Sure it can't beat the D810 but it's still pretty darn decent. What I directly did notice was how comfortable this combo is to handhold compared to the D810. Less weight and the extended grip make all the difference.

The only thing I wonder about is if the price of this lens is justified on every cam. For the same money you can have the previous 300mm f/4 + TC1.4X. It's entirely possible on some cams the quality difference is too little to justify the additional cost of the new lens vs the previous model. I read most of the difference between both is out of the center which would make less difference on a DX. But if weight is a priority, this one sure rocks.

Only just found this thread. Missed out on the first shot.

Just downloaded the second one and will give it a go.

Just to get my excuses in early.....;)

The camera slightly missed the perfect shot it was not focussed on the birds eye but just behind it.

A lot better than I could do though.
