Hi folks,

Just thought I'd pop in and tell you a little about me, My name is Dave (or formal David) I'm living in a Town called Albury which is situated on the major Highway 31 from Sydney to Melbourne and we are on the NSW side of the Murray River.

Like many I started taking photos as a youngster but never in a technical way, it was more like taking a roll and when it finished take it down to the Kodak shop and get the photos back. My first camera was a Kodak Instamatic and my first roll was black and white because back in the late 60's, that's all we had as far as I knew anyway. my Uncle who worked at kodak at the time promised to get them done for me but he took ages and I was dying to see what they looked like

Then to 1981/2 grown up now, early 20's and my friend and I went to Fiji for a 2 week holiday, we both bought a Pentax K1000 each with a nifty fifty and I took some pretty good shots with that camera without knowing what the hell I was doing, just going by the little light meter needle...i was told, just make sure that little needle was in the centre and you'll be ok. lol.

In the 90's now, I bought a Minolta 7000 film camera and I got my first job with it going around to restaurants in my area and selling shots to diners to be delivered to their homes, it wasn't big dollars but good pocket money at the time.

I bought a little Olympus digital camera in the early 2,000s, I think around 5mp and I took that on my first trip to japan, took about 180 photos but it wasn't untill I took it to a photo shop, I pointed to my sim card to a CD rom disc thinking the guy at the shop understood me, I understood the Japanese word for photo was "Sashin" and I used that word....then when I went to pick up my CD with the photos on it, I was handed all these envelopes full of 190 phots and it cost me $180 AUD but I didn't get the CD. My wife hit the roof and rang up to complain about it (she is japanese) but to no avail.....huge lesson learnt with a good ol ear bashing from the Mrs.

So, it was 2017 at Costco in Sydney, they had a Canon 80D and a Nikon D5600 with 2 lenses so I decided on the D5600 and have been a happy camper learning a digital DSLR, took lots of photos good and not so good and I wasn't really looking at mirrorless too much but trying to think how to futurise my photography but those Z mount cameras in Australia are very expensive, almost double to what people in the states can buy them for, then the Z5ii came out and was well versed on features and performance between each model, I'm not one for video, mostly stills so just before I retired from work, I bought the Z5ii and the 24-200 f4-6.3 lens, awesome set up, I used this lens almost exclusively in Japan during Feb/March and sometimes my 50mm f1.8 when i needed a faster lens which wasn't that often.

Lived in Sydney most of my working life with a few periods between Brisbane QLD and Newcastle NSW where I grew up. Been working since 15yrs and just finished before I turned 66, mostly driving Buses and trucks most my life. Sydney is awesome for Photography and so is Melbourne, I need to get back down there soon.

Heading back to Japan in November/December and hoping to get a lot more pictures.

Cheers
