I will be trekking the Smoky Mountains this weekend with lens in hand. If any of you are in the area and are familiar with some good spots.. feel free to contact me. :encouragement:

I think Cades Cove might be a decent location. It's a loop that you drive and make stops at historical houses and the like. Along that route is a 2.5 mile hike to Abrams falls. Lots of tourists, deer aren't afraid as much and rare occasion you'll see a small black bear. Really, most of the time you're driving to or from a location you can pull over and catch some pretty neat vistas just along the road.

Might help if you put a camera on it....

I don't understand the point. But I shoot with two D800s and mainly just use the 50mm f/1.8 and the 70-200mm f/4.

Thanks for the tips. Ive been going down there for years off and on. But its usually just for fly fishing.

Ill post some pics when I get back if I dont get ate by a bear.

You were just being teased a little. You said you'd have a lens in your hand, you were being teased about adding a camera to the lens that will be in your hand. Lol :)
I hope you have an awesome trip with lots of great photos! :D

It would help so give suggestions if you said where you will be, the Smokey Mountains encompasses a pretty large area. Many awesome places to shoot around these parts. Try 441 from Cherokee over in to Gatlinburg, anywhere on the Blue Ridge Parkway except for the fact that part of it between Asheville and Mt. Mitchell is closed because it's about to fall off the side of the mountain from all this dang rain! Someone else suggested Cade's Cove which is also beautiful. Many great places to shoot, have fun and welcome to my mountains!

Thank goodness! You may not survive here without a sense of humor! Glad you have one!.
Have a wonderful trip . . . and looking forward to seeing your photos from the area.

You should always be cautious of bears but for the most part they're harmless in the Smokys. The real problem with bears is when one is spotted everyone stops and follows it around. Heaven forbid one is spotted by the roadside, that causes traffic jams a mile long.

Okie dokie boys and girls. Did some quick uploads to SmugMug. Didn't have time to edit really. But wanted to give you a glimpse of some of my shots from this weekend. Thx for everyone's feedback, btw. I ended up hitting the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail, Grotto Falls, and Cades Cove. Had a good time and wore myself out hiking. So take a look and drop me a line back here with your thoughts.

On a side note, I didn't have an ND filter so I dropped the shutter speed to 1/40 for water shots. I tried to keep the f stop between 10 and 16 on everything. ISO was everywhere.. I was pretty liberal with it. I only used one lens the whole trip.. the 70-200mm f/4. I am in love with this lens.
