Frustrated because you have not received your tax refund yet?

I am. Was supposed to have been deposited before today. It is not here and my status still says "Being Processed".

Unable to get a live human at the IRS, I called the 1-800-829-1040 refund help line.

At the first prompt you have to choose "1" to continue in English. :rolleyes: Imagine that.

At the second prompt choose "2" for "Individual tax return" help.

From that point, do nothing. Do not continue to enter any numbers when prompted. Just let the recording keep asking you to make a choice. Just keep sitting there and do nothing.

Eventually it will direct you to an operator. From there you will be directed to accounts department. Be prepared for a 15 to 30 minute wait or more.

Ohhh boy. After a 30 minute wait, and a 10 minute phone call I am one of the unlucky bastards whose tax return has been pulled for ID verification due to a lot of ID theft on tax returns. Now my return is going to be delayed 30 day s or more. I cannot say the things here I want to say.

Imagine being forced to loan money out and not get any interest when you get some of it back... and having to spend hours and hundreds of dollars filling out complicated forms just to get that much back.

Oh, wait.... those people are called wage-earners! :)


Amazing how many people think a tax refund is just 'free money'. It was yours to start with, and you've loaned it out for free.

Well, what it means for me is my power gets turned off next week and my car insurance expires on the 28th. I have an interview for a new job Tuesday and if I get hired I will have no way to get there.

All the more reason to adjust your witholdings to get more back in each check to pay the bills.

Yes we all like a nice check this time of year. But really, adjust your withholdings because it's just a way for the IRS to get a loan from you and make money from the interest on it. And you get nothing in return.

When I was single, I would have it all calculated out how much I could owe without getting a penalty. People thought I was crazy to set myself up to write a big check in April. That doesn't work out anymore, we keep the withholding high so my wife doesn't spend it all during the year.
