Food shots

The potatoes in the foreground don't belong in this shot. Either crop them out or retake the shot with just the mushrooms in the shot. Personally, I would have put the whole thing on a plate with some garnish.
Nice clean, crisp shot, though.....but I wouldn't take that to a client to put on their menu. You have to be specific on what food items they want on the menu. I hope you know what I'm getting at here.

Jeremy, I would never show this shot to a restaurant or put it on a menu. The pan looks old and/or dirty or rusty and the mushrooms don't look fresh. This is one thing were you can't compromise with food photography: The food has to look great, not just OK, great. You'll have to select each individual mushroom or piece that will go in a plate before even taking the camera close to the plate. The lighting has to be better than what you have on this picture. With food, you need a backlight to give it depth and a lot more depth of field than on this shot. It has to be sharp sharp except maybe for a few special shots. Food shots are not simple snaps, they have to be planned as far as composition and preparation. Get a few food books and study the pics in there, you will get an idea of what I'm talking about.

Take only your best shots to your future customers.

Any advice please.

I'm no expert food porn photographer, but I read once to turn off the flash, and use tons of natural lighting, and a shallow depth of field.

So, that's what I started to do, and I like the results!

Again, no expert, I just like the photos I eventually wind up with after tons of practicing.

Oh, and I'm still a newbie, but it looks like your white balance might be off a bit on your photos too. :)
