Great and Thanks again for starting. And thanks for the compliment, using the flash makes me nervous but after reading all the stuff from Wayne and others on here I decided to step out of my comfort zone and start using it. I actually had the flash for about a year and my first go around was so scary I put it back in the bag.

These are my kids and was really a first time playing with on camera fill flash from my 700. Had the diffuser on with the flash was manual. Using flashes is something that I am just starting to work on so I hope this thread keeps going.

EXIF, 50 1.8 @ f4, ISO 250, 1/200 Manual exposure

The exposure and flash fill look great.

My first little venture a couple months ago into manual flash adjustment turned out poorly, and I quickly decided to work on other areas of my skills (or lack there of).

So I was wondering what your manual flash compensation value was and how did you determine the right setting? Trial and error or is there a more sophisticated manual method?

I clicked on EXIF and got nuth'in. :)

Well I would like to say I knew what I was doing but it was trial and error. I actually played with the different settings at home before we took the pictures. I used the GN mode and just adjusted the distance for each picture.

I watched a video with Rick Solomon ( excuse the spelling) and uses TTL, so I might try that the next time.

My EV on camera was 0, so it was all adjusted on the flash.

I want to get meter as I hear thats a little better than the trial and error, but I like to figure out how things work before I take a shortcut.

I wish I could say I knew what I was doing, but the first few were hot so after I got the hang of the flash it was smooth sailing for the rest of the pictures.

All of my pictures that I normally take a ambient lighting, this is actually the first time I had decent success using the flash.

My friend Steve also urged me into using as well, so I figured I better get it out of the bag.
