First ERR message on D750

I shot about 300 photos yesterday successfully at a tennis tournament (setup: S=1/1000, A=f/4, ISO=3200 with AFC & d9). Today I have the same setup for shooting another tennis game and I got the Err message on the very first shot.

I turned the cam off and on for couple of times, replaced the battery, removed and reconnected the lens (70-200 f/4) but nothing helped. I kept trying with the shutter release button and finally the cam woke up!

When I got home and after downloading all the photos I realized that the first 61 photos (out of total 115) were JPG instead of RAW (the setup was RAW on the first card and JPG on the second).

My conclusion: Something wrong with the card in the first slot (32 GB Lexar Professional - more than 1yr old).

Did anyone have the same experience?

The card problem is now confirmed.
The camera gave me a message that the card was unusable!
But I'm gonna clean it and try again until it's completely dead.

If you're on a PC, meaning you're running Windows, what I would suggest is that your reformat the card in FAT32. This will reformat the card's file structure from the ground up. After doing this you'll need to reformat the card in-camera as well, which will re-create the required folder structure for saving photos.

Put the card in your PC and wait for it to show up as a drive in Windows Explorer (e.g. NIKON D750 (D:) or whatever drive letter Window assigns it).
Right-click on the Drive/Card and choose "Format".
For "File System" use FAT32 (Default)
Un-check the tic-box for "Quick Format".
"Volume Label" should default to your camera body (e.g. NIKON D750).
Click "Start".

Go make a cup of tea or something at this point because this is going to take a minute or three...

I reformatted the card using the camera and put it in the slot 2.
Will see how it goes. If it causes problem again I'll reformat it with computer as you suggested.
Thanks.

Why bother with a bad card that card is only $18 replace it and use it in something you do not care about unless you consider your photos unimportant.
I'd hate coming back after taking photo to find out I have corrupt files.

It's now in slot 2 and doesn't affect my main storage in slot 1. My intention was to try to understand more about the problem with that card (it's still working so far with smaller-size jpeg files). Having said that, I just bought a SanDisk Extreme PLUS on sale for $19!

Most likely the card is bad or hopefully a one time error hope it works for you still.
On a side note

Memory cards are one thing you should never buy from places like eBay use a good retail store, counterfeit cards are hard to detect even the packaging looks legit.
If you suspect or want to test to make sure you have the real thing you can use a little software called h2testw it will test the card to make sure its real as well as test read and write reliability.
The size reported in Windows or MAC means nothing.
