here are some pics from my first engagement shoot. I'm excited to be shooting their wedding later this year.

weird... at least on my screen some of the previews above look really stretched (wide). Click on them to see the normal shot.

I'd really appreciate 'Likes' for my facebook page. Check out my new website as well! Thank you

Jim, the wierd stretching is due to the auto-resize. If you click on the pictures to expand them, they look fine.

You have some very good shots there! Just keep it up. Personally, I am not into the blur effects in the first 2 pictures.

thank you. Those first two with the blur effects are ones I did in PP. About 100% of these shots I used the 50mm 1.8G. There were only a couple times I used the 85mm 1.8 lens, mainly due to convenience. I am used to canon--it seemed much easier to switch lenses for some reason----it's like Nikon lenses are more grippy to the body. I've gotten used to the fact that they twist the opposite way, but it's also inconvenient because when I twist it off I usually twist off the hood as well.

I think I'll be set with just a 35mm and 85mm.. the 50mm 1.8G is so good, though....just not wide enough sometimes.....it'll be a shame not to use it as much.

Yes, can see the blur effects is done in PP. They do not look natural. That is why I am not a fan of those.

dang it...haha---is the effect too abrupt or something? Should it be a little more gradual?

I didn't use free-lensing this time since it takes a long time and a lot of trial and error to get focus right. I figured I could get the effect in PS... I might have blurred it too much and not gradually enough.

Photography is so subjective ...... you'll get a string of comments where similar likes and dislikes are voiced .... and then you get one (usually me ha ha) who sees it a little different. I like the blur effect. You have some great photos there in the mix but I really do like those first few. What does the couple like? If you're shooting for them, let them tell you what they like best. If you want to use some in a gallery/display or portfolio of sorts to showcase your work, then go with what the majority prefers. As long as you direct the right appeal to the right audience (and you can mix this up to suit), you can like and dislike what you want to for your own purposes :)

Can you soften the effect by increasing the feather and enlarging the focal point of those images and see what the result is? Sometimes a little tweak changes things dramatically
