Thanks DraganDL, would you leave it like that or would you, if you had more of the photo, make it a true portrait rather than a square?

Maybe just a little bit vignetting, here and there... The one I posted would go like that (that is, heavily cropped).

Well, this is not a wedding ;) I do not at all see the comparison - a wedding is at least 3 different places, so much happening, party, people, portraits, dress, etc etc etc. This is a baby and a baby can only be up and happy for a certain amount of time. When I have photographed babies, they only lasted around 1 hour actually.

The guy said, he felt he got paid to little, and since he is learning I think he would benefit with spending more time with the different poses, trying different angles to find the best one and work a little more on the PP. I think some of the images looks a little unfinished.

yes but 144 is not a lot. he only showed 15 pictures. doesnt mean he didnt shoot in various places or poses. we dont know based on 15 pictures. for a person starting his way, I think hes doing a bang up job. I just came back from my neices 3rd birthday. I think I shot close to 400 pics. not a lot of useable. ill give her 100. kids run around their expressions change in milliseconds. my technique is focus recompose, shoot twice, refocus recompose, shoot twice. hard to shoot kids. hate using continuous.

when I first started, I did many small events for friends and family for free just for the practice. they paid for the film developing and prints though. I just loved photography so much I was blind and the money wasnt an issue. today I love photography but want to be rewarded for my hard work.

I personally hate square crops. and I hate the instagram type effects. im sure the couple were more than happy.

dont stop what youre doing Gohan! I see a bright future for you. next time take that $2 and round it to $250. haha
