Firmware to memory card question

Ok,camera has a USB,computer has a USB , you need to transfer update from file on computer to camera. Why the HELL do we need to use the card ?
I have tried 10 times to transfer and to no avail, Do I really need the update ?
Will my photos be better will it bring me luck and good fortune. Think I will try again in a week by then I should have recieved my Tokina 12-28 f4 lens from ephotocraft and that will make me happy and forget about the update.
​Now I am hearing they have update for lens now,maybe I should have taken up painting ?

Because the USB port on your camera isn't configured to "talk" to the CPU of your camera.
