Firework Settings Advice

I left my lens on autofocus and it was very quick to pick up the foucs (18-55mm 'kit' lens). I didn't use a tripod, just my frozen fingers to make sure the camera never moved, and I think I got some semi-decent shots in this weekend.
I'll post a couple later when I get a chance.

Bulb mode was good, especially combined with live view, but you gotta have a dead steady hand if not on a tripod!
Having said that, the slight movements of my hands did add some interesting lines to a few of my shots :)

i have the 18-55 vr lens that came with the d3100 kit and dont think it has the infinity mark, how would i find it
take photo of something way off in the distance
with auto focus, that should be your infinity setting. Mark it. Use tape or something you can easly remove without harming the lens. What camera and lens are you using?

Just wanted to say thanks for all the advice on this thread.
Took a few photos at my local fireworks display, and whilst not amazing, I'm happy with a few of the shots I got.

Here's a few favourites:

Good job Sam.. Some excellent captures there my friend, I didn't venture out on the 5th as the weather was too abysmal and I didn't fancy getting my camera wet. well done.

I got lucky - was out in town centre with family and it was drizzling down. By the time I got to car and got camera it was dry, and about 10mins after the display finished, it poured down!
