Family that shoots together...

My wife will soon be joining our ranks here on the forum. Purchased her a D5100, 35mm 1.8G DX Prime, 55-200mm, mono-pod, tripod, couple 16 gig Class 10 SD cards, and a Lowepro Sling 202. Loaded her up with some filters and stuff. Her camera body, last part I'm waiting on, will arrive on Friday and then I will set her up with Lightroom for her evil Mac.

She is off to a great start and excited. And now I don't have to cheat on my wife with my camera girlfriend to go out shooting. I guess that now makes it a threesome! ;)

Excellent, did she get the 18-55mm with the cameras as well.

I wish my missus would shoot, she looks at critique photos on this forum and gives her opinion, then we look down the page and see that other members have pointed out the same things as she has. So she has a good eye for what works and what should be changed but has no interest in holding the camera. I'll keep trying though.

No doubt you will compare shots to see who got the best out of the scene, if you are both competitive it will make you both better photographers.

Sounds more like a foursome! Ya dirty bugger :p

Personally i like sneaking off from the family for a bit of me and camera time.. if the missus got into it i'd have to pretend i was off rock climbing or something with my camera! I love my family to bits.. but god i love the quite time for myself, its my self indulgent side.

I didn't get her that one. Bought her a prime 35mm. Told her she is welcome to my 18-55mm because I seldom touch it anymore. Mostly I'm on my 35mm prime or on my 200mm (replaced with a 300mm).

My wife loves to shoot but does not care for all the technical side of it. Just likes to take pictures. I bought her the Nikon CoolPix L120 which suits her just fine. Everything for macro to a very long zoom. We now pick vacation spots on where we can get the best pictures.

Having a spousal unit that is into photography to some extent has some very good points.

Have fun shooting together.

I upgraded to a D5100 from D3000, so i gave the D3000 to my wife, she loves it. She likes taking photos of flowers with my macro lens and she has taken some pretty good shots.
Heres a shot she took

Unfortunately my experience with Adorama and this gift for my wife turned into a huge disappointment. Received the camera, put the lens on, and a huge blur. The camera will show focused through the view finder using the center dot. Then the image is blurry and the area below where you focused is in focus. Does not do this in Live View mode.

Of course Adorama is not to blame for this, but it's hard to remember that. I will now be returning the camera and have purchased a new one to be rushed out.

What really bites more than any of this is the seeing my wife disappointed after being so anxious to receiver her camera.

Out of frustration I purchased a new D5100, paid for express two day. Going to return the other. Could not believe Adorama was closed for the day by 2 pm mountain.
