F4 issue

Hi
I have just received a mint condition, hardly used F4.
I inserted 6 new AA batteries and get the two red LEDs on the back of the MB-21 motorwind when I press the little button, so all is good.
However, I can’t see any information in the viewfinder and the shutter won’t fire.
I’m using an AF-S 50mm 1.8 G lens.
Can anyone help? Am I missing something silly here, or is it an electrical circuit board fault and needs professional help?
Thanks

Hi
I appreciate the reply and the manual link.
The battery contacts are all ‘as new’ - no corrosion at all. I have cleaned them and also given them a light rub with fine grade grit just in case there was some type of covering on them.
I was wondering if I was doing something silly with the basic set up? If not, I guess it has to be an internal ecb fault or similar

Do you have a camera store in the area that could look at it? I know there aren't a lot of those around anymore though.
