No you are on the right track though except for I HAVE indeed accounted for what the film is gonna do by setting the white balance on the D5000 to match the kelvin temp of the film I'm using...well I might have it a little hotter...the interesting thing is gonna be seeing what the exposure looks like film wise compared to digital wise...it should be about the same shot really as I shot the F2 at 750 F8 with 200 speed film...it should be basically the same as the second D5000 shot...

Pete you were right I should have known better than to be trying to second guess you on that one...the exposure is about the same but the picture is very different...

The first one is the D5000 with a 50...the last three are film shots with a 105...

Here are a couple more from last weekend...in the first snap the cowgirl on point and the cowgirl bringing up the rear are cajoling their horses to cross the bridge...you see the horses can see over the guard rails and as far as they are concerned those cars and trucks hurtling down the highway at 75 are coming right at them loud hard and fast and they don't understand that they are on an overpass and the vehicles go right underneath them...so to make a long story short they get freaked out when they cross over the turnpike bridge (dismount for crossing don't want to get bucked off bridge into speeding car or have the pony break hard to one side!) and as such need some sweet talking to get them through it...hahaha

In the second snap all I am gonna say is if she is in anyway self conscious as a lot of young gals her age are she damn sure doesn't show it all...carries herself and her charge very adroitly and confident like...and that horse leading up the rear is aware of the camera and wondering what the heck it is...

Call it street photography better yet call it country road...

I let a friend of mine borrow the D5000 so I have been playing around with the P&S...I'm fixing to take a walk in the woods to see what kind of macro stuff I can find...the P&S will get it on in macro...in the meantime here is a view through the viewfinder of the F2...I really need to clean that sucker up some...

OK...here is what I looked at on my walk....pretty boring uneventful walk usually I run into some sort of critter or snake or something...

Some flowers...indian paintbrushes...




Passed through the inlaw's place shot the vineyard and then went over and took a picture of the dam...built in 1904 and still holding...

Rick the dam is an amazing spot. The water flows constantly all year long and yes sometimes it gets to rock n and rolling pretty good...

Here are a couple of shots I've been working on...the color one has that great old Life magazine product ad feel to it...Technicolor! LOL

My F2 was built in February of 1975 and the 105/2.5 lens was built in late 1974...period correct top of the line Nikon pro model camera of it's day...

I haven't been making very many snaps here lately but I did load up the F2 with some 400 speed Fuji and 24 exposures yesterday. So far I have burnt 7 of them you really do have to make everyone count as much as possible with film because your talking like 75 cents a shot. Been concentrating on people pictures with the 105 which I haven't really utilized on the F2 since I got the lens. We'll see if I get a good one or not here soon I guess... Made a couple snaps of a mama rabbit that is living in the backyard yesterday...probably mediocre because they were sort of long range...really needed a 180 or a 300 or something for those...

I should have the D5000 back by the weekend...yay!

Yes I most definately do...I really enjoy goofing around with the camera and I usually always have one near at hand everywhere I go and at home...I may not take very many pictures but I always have one near. I was getting pretty comfortable with the D5000 it is just so blasted easy and immediate and it does one heck of a job too. I'll have it back soon and will continue on...

OK I finished the roll of 400 Fuji in the F2 with the 105...a whole slew of portraits with a reknowned portrait lens on full frame film...I shot at lots of different stops and shutter speeds...started out with some bright morning light sun high in the sky at 1000 SS and 2000 SS I think mostly 5.6 and 8 and maybe an 11 or two...brought it out again today in a different situation semi indoors in afternoon sun slanting in and shot some 125 SS and 8 and some 100 SS and 4 and 5.6...finally busted off a few tonight in the golden hour at high shutter speeds and medium apertures...I'll get them developed tomorrow and we'll see if I caught a good one or not tomorrow night! Probably not...hahahaha

Shooting all over the place and many a face...shooting the people I am with everyday and whom I love...I couldn't be more pleased!

OK here is a small set...window installer turned out pretty decent...the two boys are a little overexposed and they have raccoon eyes (lit from the side pretty strong no fill light)...Superia 400 seems to be better than Fuji 200 but it is still pretty grainy digital wise...I really need to order some good film if I am going to keep using the film camera from time to time...no digital camera yet gosh darn it and I have a birthday party to go to this evening...gerrr...

So tell me Jeff, do you scan the film yourself or does the processing come back with a cd of scanned negs?

I use Walgreens for processing and scanning...they scan them at 1545 X 1024 which is very low resolution so the pictures above are actually a lot smoother then they appear...I had this roll printed and you cannot see any grain whatsoever in the prints and they are way better than computer jpgs...

As for scanning myself I have looked into that and I actually have a flatbed scanner but I don't know if I can use my flatbed scanner to scan negatives (never tried it)??? I'm under the impression that it requires a special kind of scanner...is that so?

Thanks Jeff. I don't have a clue about scanning negs. I've read a bit on it but haven't gone to the trouble of buying a scanner and doing it myself. I know there is software involved just to remove the orange cast of negs. Maybe someone on the forum can shed light on this for me.

I haven't used the Hasselblad for a long time and was just wondering if I should.

Now that I think about it Marcel I would say anybody in their right mind who shoots film nowadays probably should invest in a good film scanner...I paid $15 to process develop and print 4X6 this roll...I got crappy scans too...if a person owned a scanner all you would need is processing...you can get the roll processed for like 5 bucks and then scan yourself...much more feasible in the long term scanner would pay for itself and you would get very good scans. Processing it going to get harder to find and more expensive but we are ok as long as they keep making disposable cameras...

Funny you mention the Hasselblad I was just reading a book on the the Hasselblads...what an incredible camera...Victor took on a world where the 35mm was asserting it's dominance over the whole big field...Victor was a bird man and a scientist and he made a camera that was instantly loved by any photographer who held one in their hands...the 1600 F had a 1600 shutter speed so it could freeze a bird's wings in flight...pro photogs still use these the old Hasselblads to this very day and I don't care what anyone says I don't think the D800 can make a better picture performance envelope wise than a 500C...

You'd probably have to mail 120 for processing unless you did it yourself...

If you have a Hasselblad in your possession and you have the little blond haired blue eyed girl around you I'd say you are frigging absolutely crazy if you don't break it out...

The second one is P&S crap...the hawk...

The hawk is a momma hawk who has a nest with a loud screaching whiny baby about 75 yards from my back door...the rabbit is a big momma rabbit who lives in the backyard too!!!
