The D90 and the D5000 share the EXACT SAME SENSOR, same ISO capability, same AF detection system so for purposes of still photography they are essentially one in the same...

Here is the biggest difference though - a new D90 at KEH is 899.95 and a LN- D5000 is 389.95

Some fabulous photos there. I see what you mean about the grainy Fuji 200 film but your other photos are superb so sharp!! The cost of developing and not knowing til it's printed is what makes film so expensive but it's fantastic when you get it right like those pics. F2 as well, very nice!!

Hmmmmmm. Both essentially the same camera? Just one tiny point...

The D90 has been around FOREVER to rave reviews. The D5000 lasted just shy of a year.

Do ya think there might be a reason for that?

I'm just sayin'!

You say a new D90 cost about $900. Who says you have to buy new? I've seen gently used D90's selling for anywhere from $500 to $700 in my neck of the woods. Your area may differ. Keep an eye out for bargains. :)

Thank you for all the replies I really appreciate that. I'm working on it Jack I'm working on it...hahaha Pete they are the same camera. The D90 has HD video capability and if I remember right an internal focusing motor and it has a bigger viewscreen...other than that they are the same. The D90 is only about 6 months older than the D5000 and both cameras have had loads of great reviews. Plus you know how it goes out with the old model and in with new one...

Gav it has taken me about 100-150 rolls to get to the point where I can make properly exposed and focused shots. I'm no pro or artist just run of the mill hobbyist but nowadays I usually get only a handful of unusable images per roll.

I've been shooting film for a couple of years now and I am nearly to the point where I can go digital with complete confidence knowing that there isn't anything back in the day of film that I missed. I've learned a great deal and have came to a pretty solid understanding of the workings of a camera from shooting the film and although I will always continue to shoot film it is pretty much time for digital with me.

Yeah you're right, it'll be time for you to shoot digital and it must be nice to know you really got to grips with film camera eye-level. Those pics are really superb!!! Good luck with the d5000...or d90...

For 4 of 52 I'll start off with the really bad ones first... :) OK so F2 with the 135/2.8Q and 400 Fuji Superia...trying to see what my shake factor is with this lens in low light wide open...kitchen table light which yielded EV of 12 so I shot around 2.8 with shutter speed of 1/30 and 1/60...handheld no flash low light...got blurry pics...can't do a 2.8 lens at 60! Pretty soon I will be aquiring a 85/1.8 and then I'll redo this lowlight stuff at a shutter speed of 125...now if I can just figure out how to make light bulbs not so yellow...hahaha

The second series was all about shooting the colors in the golden hour...the results are really grainy because of the fast film...

All in all just some run of the mill crap but I'm learning...

Well I pulled the trigger on a used but in ln- condition D5000 and a bargain grade 105/2.5 non Ai version 6 all to the tune of 500 bucks shipping included...I sure hope KEH's grading scale lives up to it's legendary reputation..we'll see! :)

You will never regret this move to digital. As much as I have enjoyed photography in the past during the film era, as soon as I started with digital, my inspiration grew immensely.

Thanks Rick and Marcel...BTW there are two recently built Steinway pianos visiting Tulsa...they are said to sound very different from one another... :)

I'm very glad to be getting the new camera and lens I have a pretty nice kit now...

Sorry to go off topic, but that 2nd pic scares me the way he is holding that rifle. When its a big bore someone is getting hurt.

When you said you shot a roll of 24 and got one useful pic out of it, I had to ask myself....what did it cost him to get that ONE shot developed? ;) The benefit of digital will soon be made glaringly apparent to E-L very shortly. :)

About 12 bucks sir...expensive photo huh? And I didn't even get prints!!!

The only downside of getting the new camera is that you all are going to get sick and tired at looking at the hundreds of marginal photographs that I'll be posting more of...LOL
