Just been to my step grandsons present opening,he got loads of toys but the two he was most exited about dont work, one was a large Nerf rifle we even looked on the tube and it says assemble it complete with battery's and its working, well its not,the other was a remote control car which climbs walls or something,it had one of the springs missing from the handset so the battery's dont connect.

Its not like you can check them before because they are fixed to the cardboard insert and require the cutting of plastic ties, and these things are not cheap at the consumer point, they will be cheap to the store.

Thats my Christmas moan :D

Lots of crap toys out there. Made in China. Not bad in itself to be made in China, but the opportunity is there for some really cheap, untested/minimal quality control stuff to be sold. My daughter is 19 now, so no more toys, but I pre-tested everything before gifting as she was growing up. Good excuse to just play with the toys too. Another side rant... not so much fun toys anymore. Safe and politically correct. I learned from my toys. Especially if I got my finger caught or shot myself myself, good learning, lol.
Merry Christmas everyone. (real wishes, not cynical)

I did pre-test and charge ( and play :) :) ) my son's Tablet and Bluetooth speaker before I wrapped them just to make sure it worked when We gave them to him.

That's too bad, mikew. I understand his disappointment and your frustration. I hope you get it sorted out. Most of those items will work for a short while and then malfunction before going into the trash. Maybe if more people returned them for refund when they break, things might change. Sometimes it's worth paying more to get a better item, but that's not always what happens either.

i'm fortunate that my children are older and we are able to "downsize" Christmas this year, even though what we purchase for them tends to be more expensive.

Gift Cards for the G'kids! No assembly required, no batteries required, they work every time, not hard to get out of the package, easy to wrap... Of course this is for the older kids. Ha!

Same here I brought my Grandson a Hockey game.
Opened it up and no game in it. Just a blank c.d.
And you no what trouble that was. It came out of a locked case at store.
Was sealed also. They said i took it out and was trying to get a second one for free.
I now open any game up at store to be sure they are in the case.
