Depending on what you want to do, there are a couple other options.

There is a camera raw converter that will read the newer NEF files and covert them to DNG.

Lightroom 5.3 or above can support the ACR 8.3 that you need for the D5300.

Back to the beginning again, thought it was working buts its not. So I am still looking for a cheap version of Elements 12 or similar.

What exactly do you want to do?

Are you looking for more RAW editing capability or just want to convert the NEF to a file PSE can use?

I have a brand new, unopened box of Photoshop Elements 12 if you are interested--just need to take a photo of it. I am in the US so not sure how cheap it would wind up costing due to shipping.

If it was being shipped CONUS in the US, it would be $35. Not sure how much extra overseas shipping would cost, but it might negate any advantages for you.
