The town of El Peñol in Colombia was purposely flooded during the construction of a hydro-electric dam some twenty-five years ago. About a decade ago, it's former residents constructed this half-scale replica of the town center. It's located in the mountains above the original site.

The original town of El Peñol is somewhere beneath these lake waters. The area became the favored country-estate area for Medellin's elite--politicians, professionals and mafiosi.

Very nice. I was in Cartagena 4 years ago on business, loved the colours there also. I took a "walking tour" of the "Old city" lots of history there. I had a great time would go again in a heart beat.

Sam, I've yet to go to Cartagena, but it and Quito are on next years list of destinations. They both should be really rich in photographic opportunities.

Envigado, Colombia. Our driver claimed that there was a 50% chance that these saddle bags contained yucca and a 50% chance that they contained coca paste. My own opinion: our driver was playing around with us...but who knows.

Probably Yucca, unless that's a Mac-10 he's hiding behind his back, in his right hand! :D

There were four or five other other guys with similar groups of pack animals. Most of them were carrying small arms. That really isn't unusual in rural Colombia, however. I decided not to take pictures of them. :grey:
