If you have dust on your sensor and the in camera sensor clean isn't handling it, what do you do? Best practices and suggestions are appreciated.

First attempt is with one of those rocket blowers... from there, if you need to, are the specialized dry/clean swabs... and as a last resort, the swabs with a liquid cleaner...

1. Use the sensor shaker in your camera, if it has one.
2. If that fails, use a blower.
3. If that fails, use a gel stick or sensor brush.
4. If that fails, use a wet-cleaning swab.
5. If that fails, send it to a pro.

With #2 do not under any circumstances ever use canned air.

#3 is something you should have in your kit anyway. I have been using this Amazon.com : Sensor Gel Stick : Camera & Photo and it is safe, fast and easy, and it works.

I have never had to go past #3 so I can't tell you anything about the others

My D7100 needed to be wet-cleaned the first time, as I think there was oil on the sensor. Now all it takes is a few blasts from the Rocket Blower to get it clean.
