Woke up this morning to the sound of rain. By the time I was on my way to work, the clouds had started to part and we are now headed for another scorching summer's day.
I thought i'd break out the 18-105 for the first time in a while. After using the wide angle for the last few days, it was nice to have the extra reach.

Yes... the infamous Southern Star observation wheel. There is quite a story about it actually. It was Melbourne's attempt at replicating the London Eye and someone high up suggested it would draw tourists to the area, but after 40 days of operation in 2008 it had to close due to a series of structural defects (cracks). It soon became a bit of a laughing point among Melbournians.

I JUST GOOGLED SEATTLE'S WHEEL The Seattle Great Wheel Official Website | Seattle Great Wheel A 1000 AUSSIES FROM EDUCATION WORLD TRAVELS WHERE VISITING. NOT SURE IF IT WAS TODAYS DATE OR FROM SOME OTHER TIME. JUST ONE OF THOSE FUNNY THINGS.
I really like the angle/perspective on this one and the power lines add to an interesting view.

I took a few shots in the morning on my way to work but really didn't like any of them. I never had a chance to go out at lunch time and on the way home I just couldn't find anything which grabbed my attention. I'm heading interstate for a couple days this week and won't get much time to see the kids, so I thought i'd have a bit of a play with them and take a few 'happy snaps'.
Working on my photoshop layout techniques, I created a Diptych of my two boys.

Today I received my Sigma 70-20 f2.8 and Nikon 50mm f1.4 back from service.
Test shot with Nikon 50mm f1.4
Whilst f1.4 can't be used for everything, I do like the effect on Macro-like images.

Had to go to Canberra for a couple nights to assist with the IT in a new building my company just built. The first night I decided to take a sunset shot, however being without a car, I was restricted to walking distance. I decided to just 'follow the sun' and ended up at the bank of Lake Burley Griffin. I hung around for hours and took a number of sunset shots, but I preferred the below shot so this is my shot for the day.

And a bonus pic... On my way back to the hotel I came across this scene. I didn't think much of it through the viewfinder, but now that it has been processed, I'm really pleased with it.
