Well said. I shot Kodachome with various Nikons for decades until the end of Kodachrome production, when my interest in photography rapidly tapered off to almost nothing. When Nikon offered the D5100 I found a model that seemed just right and it's been great. My interest in photography has since returned full throttle. There's no way a cell phone camera would generate any enthusiasm from me -- there's just no fun in total automation.

I do not want to wrack my brain finding the reason on the declining sale of conventional DSLR. Let Nikon or Canon or any DSLR manufacture investigate it. But what is alarming to us as consumers is more sales will translate into lower price as what we are enjoying now compared to 10 years ago. But lesser sales will unfortunately mean higher price for future DSLR. It is a simple demand and supply curve. Lesser sales will also mean lesser innovation and improvement therefore lesser sales and lesser innovation will result in lesser demand...it is a catch 22 situation 
And it will mean slimmer chance for me to upgrade to full frame! In fact many of my friends (Nikonites) have jumped ship to Fujifilm 's X series or Sony RX1... although I would still prefer DSLR and very unlikely to migrate to mirrorless....

Indeed. I've had a few point and shoot digital camera's and they were fine for taking pictures of items to sell on eBay but I just never had the interest to go back again and take pictures for the sake of taking pictures like I used to do......until I bought this camera.
Now I can't wait for free time to try and get out and take more.
