Dropped D7000; seems ok; should I have it checked out?

Dropped my camera about 3 feet this morning. I was picking it up off a small table when the strap caught on the table and jerked the camera out of my hand.
The only visible signs of it hitting the floor (carpeted) was that the lens cap was kind of shoved into the filter at an angle and the cover for the SD card slots came open. Apparently it hit lens first. I removed and re-attached the lens (no visible signs of damage) and took a few pictures.
Everything seems to be ok but would it be a good idea to have the store where I bought the camera check it over just to make sure there's no problems? Thanks.

I was taking star images in the desert and slammed my D7000 w/ 14-24mm f/2.8G lens to the ground, not gently but at the end of my tripod so like a baseball bat, it picked up speed before crashing to the ground. I went to move my gear from my west facing spot to shoot the eastern skies and forgot there was small 1 ft wash near my position. And to make it worse, I left the camera on the end of my tripod and slung both over my shoulder. When I hit that wash I went down hard and so did the camera/lens. I laid there in the dirt for a good 4 or 5 min wondering if I broke my leg and thinking to myself that driving out to the middle of the desert alone might not have been such a great idea. Finally I had the nerve to look at my camera and lens and much to my surprise all I found was a sheared off wired remote and a tiny little scuff on the lens hood. Otherwise the camera and lens were working fine.

So given what I've seen a D7000 go thru and still work fine, I'm thinking you'll have no problem with your camera.

Thanks for the replies; I think I just needed some assurance as I'm two hours from the camera store. Everything still seems to be working fine. I was also able to update the A/B firmware and distortion control successfully.

Tried a few more pictures today. Still working fine. I did notice once when picking up the camera again that I heard a slight rattle/thunk. I gently shook it and heard it again. I think it's coming from the lens(18-105); or maybe lens and camera. Is that normal? I just may not have noticed it before and may be supersensitive to anything now.

That lens has VR, so every chance the rattle is the VR system at idle and is probably normal. Saying that my son dropped my Tamron 17-50 VC lens from about 4 feet. It hit hard and damaged the VC to the extent I now have a non VC version. It might pay to check your VR is working correctly.

If your warranty is over I won't bother to send it for checking since everything is working fine. It is not going to be worse if I need to send it in later. Enjoy your camera instead of wording about it.

Had the opportunity to be close to the camera store this week so I just took the camera with me. One of the employees looked it over; checked for any visible damage, made sure the lens was autofocusing correctly, etc. Everything was OK.
