Don's Cemeteries

A recent post by Moab Man got me interested in tombstones again. Many years ago in film I had a very large collection of cemetery photos from all over the State. I think after seeing the ones that Moab Man shot I will fine tune what I am shooting. Break it down into categories. The first one being hands. Then other symbols and statues. I may expand on this some after I get to shooting. having worked on my Genealogy for 25 years I found I learned a lot of history and i think having to research all that I find doing this will teach me even more.

Here is my first from today.

Clasped hands can be a symbol of a farewell or last goodbye, and some are accompanied by wording reflecting such sentiments. This symbol can also illustrate unity in life and death, a fraternal bond or a partnership such as man and wife.

Now this one has my interest. Can not make out all the design and the Autauga Hill Chamber and number did not some up with anything yet. Autauga in the name of the county I live in.

Re: Don's Cemeteries

Looking through the photos of stones from back east, compared those here in the west from the pioneer days; the eastern stones of the era were far more elaborate. My mother and I were thinking it probably had to do with availability, available craftsman, and the sheer cost of transporting all the way to the west. Thoughts?

Photo in #9, any idea on the logo meaning?
