Don's Old Daily Dabblings

Re: Don's Daily Dabblings

First bloom. These Iris are some that I dug up from my Mother In Laws yard when we were getting it ready to sell. I put them in a plastic bag and was planning to plant them here at home. Well I forgot to plant them and they stayed in the plastic bag over the winter. The plastic disintegrated and the Iris took root and they are now blooming. So far I have two colors but I hope more will bloom soon. I will have to transplant them to a better location though but I know they are impossible to kill now.

I have the 40mm Macro and I love it. It is also a good lens for general use since it is a 2.8. Sharper than my tow zooms ever thought about.

I still have to do some more research... to see which 'flavor' I want... I was thinking 40 or 60 but time will tell (and budget along with permission from the dominant spousal unit!) Thanks Don, you have had some great shots with that 40..

The 40MM is the cheapest version and the reason I got it. Funds permitted I would have gotten the 60 or even the 105 but at $280 the 40mm is hard to pass up.

What I would really like is one of the super zooms with macro like the http://Tamron 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 XR Di-II Macro Lens for Nikon Digital SLR but at the price it goes for I wonder how good it could be. Again it would be a nice walk around lens for playing

or the Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC Macro OS HSM

I am not really interested in the supers... I know the 40 is the least amount but I also want to look at the others (60 etc). Dont want to buy one and wish I had another!! I am thinking of trying one of those lens rental places and actually trying like a 40 and 60. May do the same thing for the superwides! (looking at and 11 or 12mm)

Thanks for your info and take on the situation!

I have the 55mm micro-nikkor and the 105mm micro-nikkor. I don't think I have used the 55mm in at least a year. I use the 105mm all the time.

Thanks Barb, what do you find as the advantage to the 105???

I don't have to be right on top of my tiny subject. That's the best feature. It is also extremely sharp and easy to focus. I have the early AF one. It came out when the F4 came out so it doesn't have VR and is only autofocus on my D7000, and manual focus on the D3000. It is also a good portrait lens, if you are into portraits (which i am not).

Re: Don's Daily Dabblings

I have been working on my Photoshop skills recently so I opened one of my favorite old photos I shot with an old Canon POS in 2008.
I think the reedit came out pretty good.

Re: Don's Daily Dabblings

Was going through some old photos tonight and found this one of my Mom and Dad in 1945. Tried cleaning it up a bit and it came out pretty good.

Mom and Dad on Dam sm.jpg

On the other side of the dam is the lock and on the other side of the lock is a gold course. 18 years after this was shot we lived by the 16 hole and could hear the water going over the dam.
