Do you use an aftermarket screen protector?

I have a plastic snap-on for my 51 so I don't have to flip the screen when I'm done shooting. Pretty convenient and easy to remove and clean.

It's like paying extra for any type of product warranty, mathematically it's a waste of money, but if it gives you a warm fuzzy and YOU Like it, go for it. They are cheap enough :D

I'm with you, Carguy. I'm now a big believer in warranties. I have a 2007 Frontier 4x4 pick up and when I bought it I went ahead and got the extended warranty with it. And like most warranties, I never had occasion to use it. Nissan makes a great truck and this one ran perfectly for nearly the entire 5 yr period. One weekend I started experiencing a strange loss of power and I was going thru gas like crazy. I took it to my dealer and it turned out that my catalytic converter fell apart and pieces were sucked up into my engine block. As a result it completely destroyed my engine completely and I needed a complete new long block. Turns out I had 2 days left on my extended warranty and the entire thing - new long block, installation, etc., completely covered under my warranty. I was 2 days away from a $8k repair bill (the new long block itself was $6k, I saw the invoice when it arrived) and I'm sure installation and decorating it would easily tack on another $2k considering it was a dealer doing the work.

So the way I see it, I can buy every extended warranty for the rest of my life and even if I never use any of them I'll still end up in the black.;)

Sounds like you were one of the rare examples Dave, glad it helped you out :D

I like to use the millions of dollars companies spend on research to my advantage. They sell extended warranties for one reason, it is VERY profitable for them. Odds are you will never need it. I'll take those odds :)

A screen protector is little money & in my opinion worth it. I scratched up the screen pretty good on my D70, since then I'm a believer in GGS.

Extended warranty for a car or truck, no thanks. Glad that worked out for you Dave. It's a real cash cow for dealers.

Yes, I totally agree with you on car warranties. It's a huge cash cow and in general things break within their normal warranty period so buying an extended warranty was a crap shoot, no doubt. To be honest, the reason I went ahead and got it for my truck was because of my love for camping in the desert combined that with 4 wheel drive truck with lots of power, it seemed a prudent thing to have. And having scored on a brand new long block I'm so glad I rolled the dice.

I dont have the D7000 but saw this thread line.
I do have the D5100 and use a ZAGG ' invisible shield' for my screen protector.

Only reason I post here is I saw they are running a 50% off code now for the site.
Nikon D7000 Screen Protector | invisibleSHIELD by ZAGG
50% code: ARMOR50 (taking it from 15 to 7.50)

It is applied like Car window tint (Little aplication liquid/water and a squeege (included in the kit). Once on I cant even tell that it was added to my screen.

It offers good scratch resistance, Lifetime warranty, free shipping.
Have used these on all my phones, cameras, IPAD...

Just thought I'd offer if anyone was interested.

I've got Zagg covers on my wife's & my iPhones. Never knew that made camera covers. It's a very nice product & holds up very well. My phone is treated much harder than my camera.

isn't the "one supplied with the camera" just supposed to protect the screen during shipping/transit? I know lots of people use them to protect the screen (me too), but that's not really the intended purpose of them.

EDIT: I second the Zagg ANYTHING covers. Honestly, some of the craziest, toughest protectors on the market bar none. You can literally take a key to your phone's screen and it won't scratch it in the slightest. I tried it on my old iphone.

I had no idea they made them for cameras, I'll have to look into that ASAP!

2nd EDIT: Bam. http://www.zagg.com/invisibleshield/nikon-d7000-cases-screen-protectors-covers-skins-shields.php

I have an "Invisible Shield" on my GPS unit which has been subjected to horrors my camera will, hopefully, never come close to. I can attest to the fact Invisible Shield sheds not-so-routine damage and scratches like water off a ducks back.

I havn't read the entire thread, but I have the Vello glass kit on my D7000. I had a large scratch on the original one that came with the camera. I have to say, I highly recommend it. It's leaps ahead of the Nikon one. For one, no particles can get stuck between the screen and the screen protector. On my old D90, it actually left some marks when bits of dirt got sandwiched in. The Vello adhears to the screen itself and you can hardly tell it's there. I don't know if anyone mentioned this already, but the kit comes with a small piece for the top LCD screen...not the eyepiece. I
