Cameras do not put color Temperature and Tint into the Exif.

Wayne, Thanks for this excellent explanation. One small correction: NIKON cameras do not put color Temperature and Tint into the Exif. Canon, for example, writes them into the maker part of the Exif data. They do so for information purposes only - the WB RB data you describe is also there.

Mike, per WayneF's explanation (I just analyzed a few test shots and found the same), as well as the other explanations provided, you can either simply open the two images in Adobe Bridge/LR/PS and compare the color temperatures, or you can use something like ExifTool and compare the WB_RBLevels (look for them in the Nikon section of the data). If these values are different between the two pictures, which I think they will be, you know for sure that the AutoWB in your camera simply made slightly different decisions between them.

Thanks i feel i can take the explanation as given.it was the first time i had noticed it and i have just put 100 shots through with a borrowed Tamron 150-600 from my dealers S/H stock and seen no problems, if it had not been on top of a bad day i would have ignored it i think.
