I found this while at work, I think if you did beef it up enough it would work and you could trust it.

"if you did beef it up" being the operative phrase here. Personally, no amount of beefing up on the planet by me or anyone else would see me sticking my D600 on there and walking away. Maybe, MAYBE, my D90 as a test run. With the time and effort expended to make it happen I'm thinking that there are other similar devices more easily adapted for the purpose. If you try it with that D800 of yours let us know how it works out.
