I don't care what Wikipedia says, this is a Canadian Robin! It was photographed in Canada, it eats in Canada, it probably reproduces in Canada, therefore it is a Canadian robin.
I will ask for his passport the next time, lol

Jon-
Excellent capture! I would rate as follows-
Total 10/12
-1 Composition
-1 Technical
I think there is too much dead space to the right and as pointed out, would benifit from portrait orientation. The colors do seem a bit muted also.
This shot definitely tells a story and certainly has impact! Very nice shot off the cuff.
As to the illegal immigrant status, he also appears to be eating for free! Next he'll be expecting free healthcare!
Yes stay in line you guysThis thread has gotten WAY off track, guys. While it's okay to keep things lighthearted, remember that this is the critique section and photos get posted here for a reason. Be sure to read the new Critique Forum Rules.

Creativity = Though i like the moment that was captured, It's a bird with a worm. A robin none the less. Not much that is creative there. I also understand it was a quick snapshot, and was not intended for "creativity".
Composition = It is close, though the rule of thirds would have played better here in my opinion. The subject is a bit too far to the right, and a bit too low, leaving an undesired amount of negative space on the left of the frame.
Technique = First, it's a bit over exposed and it could use a bit more contrast. it looks pretty sharp for 300mm at 1/80th. Try to remember as a general rule, your shutter speed should be equal or greater than your focal length. You should have been at 1/320th here. This is where shooting in manual would benefit. 1/320th and ISO around 400 should have got you close. dont be afraid do raise the ISO to get faster shutter speeds. especially on the 7000.
On a side note, shooting in RAW and using lightroom could have easily saved this pic and turned it into something much stronger. I wont fault you for not post processing it, as it is not everyones cup of tea. editing and cropping now, will only deteriorate the image.
Also, despite what other members say, do NOT crop this into a vertical. just crop it a bit so the thirds take play.
