digiscoping with D3200

Hi
Very new to all this but I have a D3200 and a Nippon digi scope .When I attach the camera to the scope I get a lens not attached message (except in Manual mode) once in manual mode I cannot alter the f number am I doing some thing wrong

It depends on how you are connecting your spotting scope. Are you attaching the camera body directly to the spotting scope using an adapter, or are you attaching the camera with lens attached to the spotting scope using step-rings?

Camera lenses have apertures that open and close and correspond to an f/number like f/5.6 or f/4. Spotting scopes do not have an aperture so they do not use f/numbers. So, again, how you are going to control exposure will be determined by how you are attaching the scope to the camera.

In any other mode but “M”, your camera will only work with CPU lenses, that is, with lenses that contain electronics that communicate with the camera. That's just how it is.

Whatever this “Nippon digi scope” is, it probably doesn't contain these electronics, so there's no reason to expect the camera to work with it in any mode other than “M”.

It probably also doesn't contain an adjustable aperture, so no way to “alter the f number”.
