I'd say use 1 single point focus, focus and re-frame after focus acquisition.

Thanks Marcel,

Taken that on board and trying all suggestions, bought the AF-S 300mm and converter two weeks ago in the hope it would help me in difficult area as mentioned before.

I have been spoiled by 70-300vr, which means I notice I am not as steady as I used to think, but have notice I am getting better the more I am using it.

Apart from learning to become more stable in hand holding, even the new prime has hot and cold focus moment in same situation as 70-300 had. So I thought rightly or wrongly that maybe by upgrading to a body that was supposed to have better focus system, it would logically help me. Maybe you could set me straight on this please.

Ummmm... Yeah; pretty much this. And lets not forget the fine art of manual focus. I like AFS as much as the next guy but I've taught myself not to be utterly dependent on it. All I'm saying is... AFS is a tool and sometimes it just flat out doesn't work very well; so it's a good skill to have to be able to adapt and overcome its limitations in certain circumstances. But hey, you use what works for you.

Just my two-cents.

Hi Horoscope Fish,

I will try manual focus, as what ever works best for me to achieve what I consider a very pleasing photograph.

Shied off from that as I believed that was only for accomplished photographers with advanced knowledge and skills.

Trying manual and what Marcel suggested will be done today and tomorrow.

Thanks for the push, nothing ventured nothing gained
