hi guys, just after your advice,

been goin with the 18-55mm kit lense for a few months now, and am looking to upgrade, am keen on landscapes and have looked at the 10-24mm dx but am also consiering switching up to an fx lens like the 14-24mm just incase in time i plunge onto the world of fx photography. what would you guys recommend? is it worth switchin up to an fx lens? if not is the 10-24 a much better lens than the standar kit lens?

cheers in advance :D

I've heard that the Tokina 11-16mm is a good alternative too, but I have no use of it, just what I've heard and read about.

I'm guessing looking at the two lenses you have listed, your budget is quite high, so maybe look at the 12-24mm f/4 too?

By all accounts the 14-24 is a spectacular lens but if you wany ultra wide it may not be wide enough on your DX body. If you can afford 2 lenses I would look at something like the Tokina for DX and get the 14-24 when you get an FX.

I have the Nikon 16-35 f4 FX lens and I love it and at your DX rate it will be 24-55ish and the 24mm is wide not ultra wide but farely wide, thats my two cents. I have sample shots if you need some just let me know. Thanks

For landscapes, you don't really need a fast aperture as you likely know. So get a slower lens that's wider. 16-85 is a great choice, I'm happy with mine. Or the famous Tokina 11-16 with that 2.8 as a bonus! But definitely look into those FX options. Money invested in great glass will pay off in spades in the long run.

I love my 14-24mm but would only recommend it if you were fairly certain you will one day move to an FX. Otherwise I think the 10-24mm or 12-24mm Nikkor DX lenses would be the best choice.

The tokina looks intresting and tempting, has anyone compared it to the nikor 10-24? i see alot of people saying that you should plunge for nikor lenses as they will holds its price over other lenses, that is a bit of a factor in the back of my mind, especially if going to spend some hard earned cash ;D. Im pretty sure that some day i will go up to fx just at matter of time tbh

Your choice would then boil down to weather you make enough money with your photos to justify the DX expense and buy a more expensive lens down the road. If you're not making money with it, I'd actually cry once and jump on the fx 10-24. You'll likely get less than half your money back on the tokina.

The Tokina 11-16/2.8 can be used on a FX body. I use mine regularly. I's really only usable at 16mm though due to vignetting. It does vignette slightly at 16mm but is easily fixed in post.

what do you find lacking in the 18-55mm kit lens? Do you have a bad case of "nas" after reading posts here? What setting are you taking most of you pictures at 18-25-35-55mm? If all at 18mm then go wider sigma 10-20mm @ 55mm go longer nikon 16-85.
