Hey everyone. Just a beginner photographer who enjoys taking photos as a hobby.

Currently trying to decide on a zoom as well as a macro lens to go with my D5200.

Leaning towards the 105mm f2.8 nikkor micro, and the 70-300mm af-s vr zoom.

Please give me constructive criticism of my photos so I can learn and get better.

Well, to start with, it would be nice if you filled out the rest of your profile. It helps us help you in answering any questions you might have.

As for your choice of lenses....nothing wrong with either of those lenses. Both excellent for what they do.
As for the pictures you submitted......#1 is top heavy (too much sky. Main subject is centered..not good. Should have left a little room on the left side of the shot, to show where the bird is flying to. Rule of thirds applies here. :)
#2....just needs a little color correction, and again, too centered. Allow some room around the subject (not too much) to give it some visual interest.

If I may....this is my take on your #2 shot. See any difference. :)

OK. Love the whiskey bottle shot. Nice color and composition. Not much I would change there. Being centered works in this application of the subject. The metro tracks shot....great composition, great perspective.... Love it!

Awesome, thanks Jack! These are in order too of when I got the camera. So these are the oldest.

Your images seem to be having a brownish tinge to it.. or is it just me?
noticed it first on the D5200 shot.. the camera body & strap seems to be 'browner' than the lens..
and similarly the rest of the shots too..
are you shooting in auto? and your WB settings?

great shots to start off !

OK...I don't know what to think about the jewelled butterfly, so I'll leave that one for someone else. :)

As for the cupcakes....it was too "flat". not enough punch...if you know what I mean. The light just wasn't there to make it look appealing. This would be my version of that shot:

A little cropping to bring the focus on the front cup cake, which, to me, is the main point of interest. Then I color corrected it a tad, and sharpened it up a little. See the difference. :)

Well, I thought about the butterfly some more, and this is what I came up with. Added some saturation, contrast, adjusted the gamma ever so slightly, and sharpened it up just a tad. Cropped a little off the right side, too. Now, to me, the jewels seem to have a little more "pop" to them. Would you agree? :)

haha I do edit some of the photos with a filter, but the first picture of my D5200 is brown because the camera itself is actually bronze. The camera came in three color options; black, bronze or red.

Hmm I do like the colors more, but I think I prefer the off-centered setup more? But if ya'll think i'm wrong then tell me! I'm here to learn.
