Walt I turned off the the lights, but there was still a little light, like early evening. I placed a 3" tall candle behind the jar and a little flat t - light candle to the right just out of frame.Danno, Did you have any ambient light or was this only lit by candle light?
Thank you for the input Moab. I will retake the shot in the morning and repost. Really appreciate the input.I like the image, but I want to challenge you to do it again.
Nitpicking to follow...
There is something behind the plaque that's protruding and bugging me. I don't like the plaque so tight against the edge of the photo.
The jar, due to the position of the camera, has a lean to the right. I would also uncover the plaque hidden by the jar.
I like the warmth of the candle, placement of the candle, blemishes on the wood and wall. It gives the image a homey feel.
It is a warm image. I like it a lot.
October? If you can nail shooting with candles, then you will be adding a whole new level of depth to your images. I found it a bit frustrating and need work on it some more to. Come October, I need to be able to shoot some low light images, and candles would add some interest.
Halloween props in low lighting and Jack-o-lanterns. Sorry about the vague reference.October?

I should have known cause I have two old friends that enjoy it that much. Not everybody thinks about Halloween 12 months out of the year. I am probably the one with dain bramage.
I am not alone, though. I have a buddy opening up a pro haunt this year. I will probably be taking pics of it as a favor.
Nicely done. Of the two, I like the second a bit better because the first is a little too tight on the top.
From reading the posts here, I would encourage you to keep playing with candles. Maybe you have found your niche.
Thanks Roy, I appreciate the advice and encouragement with regard to the niche. It has been very helpful. I do enjoy it and you may see more if the winter lingers on or on those days when I am unable to get out and wander. I like playing with the light and learning more about composition. Fun stuff... although it was "hard dark" in the house at 4:30 AM. I usually have more lights on![]()
