January 8, 2016 #8. Today it was raining around here so I could not really get out. I saw some black smith shots by
Horoscope Fish and I remembered a dear old friend Dave Cox. Dave is gone now but he was a disabled vet... but to supplement his income he forged his knives out of saw blades and files. There was a time when I stayed well armed and Dave knew I had a thing for his knives so every so often a few minutes after I got home from work Dave would be on the back porch with something he thought might interest me. I would go sit in his work shop for hours watching him make knives and talk about history. I miss Dave. It is funny, the first knife he made for me was a drop nose blade with a curved handle. We had never met and it fit my hand like he had been making knives for me for years.
The monster is a copy of the Confederate D Guard Bowie knife, or shot sword. I did not want the D Guard... It was a bit big for me to carry around but I did like the look... the checkering is from the original file is was forged from. It is resting on the sheath of a USMC KBar just to give you some scale.
