Damaged or just dirty

I made this same mistake on one of my old SLRs. Thought I'd be clever and clean the focusing screen with liquid. Needless to say I ended up with the same mess as you did. Never did get it back to normal. It didn't affect the final product but it did drive me to distraction for 8 years. ;)
Lesson learned: Don't mess with the focusing screen LOL

(highly doubtful it is on your mirror ... I would take it to another shop for a second opinion)

I have had a quotation from Fixation of £40 + vat for the repair. Havent had a quote with Nikon direct but they offer free shipping where Fixation dont. So I am in the dilemma of will sending it direct to Nikon whos higher price (possibly) offset the free collection/delivery????

Get your math head on. Nikon will not give you a quote?
