When I pressed my D90 trash button it stayed in and I cannot get it to return to its original position. As far as I know, there is no way that dust can have got in. Does anybody have any solutions for this problem, please?

Welcome to Nikonites!

Hopefully your camera isn't trying to tell you something. :) I'm guessing that something broke behind the button that pushes it back out, or keeps it in place. I would take it to an authorized Nikon repair place. Or you can take it apart yourself and see what the problem is. It's possible you could find some donor parts on ebay to save some cash. Unfortunately you can't order parts directly from Nikon anymore.

I think my nearest Nikon repairer is at Stoke on Trent and I'm in Stourbridge, so it's a bit of a jaunt. Fortunately, I've just managed to gently prize it free by using a tiny screwdriver. I'd lost my menu and all the other buttons had stopped working before, but now I've released it everything seems to be back and working. I think my best bet at the moment is not to use this button, but if something similar happens again then I'll have to get up to Stoke. I take it that it would need to be a Nikon dealer and not just a general camera shop I need to go to.
Thanks for your help.

That is what I'd do. I've never filled up all of my cards, so I've never really needed to delete images in the camera. In fact, I've caused myself some grief by doing so. Now I always view an image on a large display before I delete it.

Many thanks for the welcomes and the advice. As a relatively inexperienced photographer, forums like this are so useful.
