D7k travel lens?

I am thinking either of these:
- Sigma 18-250mm DC Macro OS HSM
- Tamron AF Di II VC 18-270 PZD

I'm afraid that these are the only I can afford within my budget, and I'd like that my travel lens has that kind of range.
I'll obviously want it to be as versatile as possible, from doing decent holiday action, architecture, wildlife, people, landscape etc.

I obviously also know primes and shorter zooms will give better pics, but wondering which of those you think will do the best job.

Thanks!

You will do fine with either one. Performance is almost equal as far as i have read. Tamron has a 6 year warranty, a couple of more years than the Sigma. Personally, i would go with the Tamron - it looks more like a Nikon lens to, lol :)

Look for a used Nikon 18-200mm VRII.

Good suggestion. But, a new Tamron is $449, compared to a used Nikon at $379 - as per B&H. She will also get more range and a 6 year warranty with the new Tamron. Though, in the end, it's up to her.

This is friendly advice for the OP: If you want overall value, get a new lens. If you want upfront value - saving a few bucks up front - go with a used Nikon. Keep in mind that if anything goes wrong with the Nikon 3 years down the road, you have no warranty. That means you have to pay for the repair. With the Tamron, you have 6 years. You are getting more range out of the Tamron over the Nikon. In five years, no one knows what the re-sale value will be of either lens. Unless you can tell the used Nikon to only crap out on you in the first couple of years - that is if you get an extended warranty - the savings between New and Used upf front are negligible. Oh, and back to the extended warranty on the used nikon, anywhere from 50 to 80 dollars and the 80 dollars only gets you 2 years. Spend an extra 80 dollars on the Tamron and you get 6 years.

Thanks for all input. :)

Just out of curiosity, is the 18-200 VR I as good as the VR II? I can find a used VR I here in Norway, but not the II. Haven't decided quite yet though. :)
