The funny thing I have noticed about sports photography, players and fans can give you the best critique of the action captured.

It must be true since my expectations are much higher and I always told other people that the pictures that I took were horrible eventhough they like them.

Try isolating the player in a portrait orientation instead of landscape and see what you think.

One of the things I try to do when taking sports shots is focus on one person and follow them. Of course, that's after watching the action to figure out who gives the best odds for action. Photography can be like bird hunting; if you shoot at the flock, you're going to go home empty-handed.

I'm not trying to make money out of this games but I do it as a hobby, to gain experience and it's simply fun.

I also make no money from shooting our high school events, but I do get a great ego rush when people comment favorably on my photos, which is also good compensation.
