D7000 with 80-200 2.8 D lens getting fEE error

I have a D7000 with a 80-200 2.8D lens that is giving me a fEE error. It gives the error when set to f22 and 16 and 11. It will shoot at the other F stops. the shutter speed and f stop display flickers at these settings but it does shoot and focus. I tried my 18-200 and 35mm and they work fine. I am waiting for my D300 to get back to me so I can test it on that. The contacts have been cleaned and a fresh battery installed. Does anyone have any ideas what I can check for now.

Thanks Dan

Double checking here, the aperture ring of the lens is physically set to f/22 and you are controlling the Aperture in-camera instead of on lens, correct?

As Panza said, the lens needs to be set at the smallest aperture. There might even be an aperture lock on the lens which should help keep it from accidentally changing to a different aperture when handled. That's how you use older lenses that have aperture rings.

Like the above posts, if it has a aperture ring make sure its locked.

Just a technical note: You DO NOT need to lock the aperture ring. You only need to

Once the lens is at minimum aperture, everything will function as designed.

Locking the aperture ring only prevents one from turning it away from minimum aperture. That is what causes the FEE error. You can merrily shoot away with the lens unlocked.
