I refused the kit 4 gb Lexar and instead got two SanDisk 4 gb ultra sdhc card. Also got Hoya HMC uv(c) 67 filter.

Well, all I gotta say about this incredibly long thread is that we not only beat this horse silly, but we buried it, manicured the lawns, built a shrine, planted roses and raised a flag. I think our work here is done. :D

Congrats, on the D 7000, I have had mine for well over a year, taken it overseas twice and use it almost everyday.
It never lets me down and I have had no issues with it at all, use a 1.8 50mm, a micro 55mm, 70-300 , 18-55mm. and 28-105mm. it has been a fantastic camera.

I think now i need the 70-300 VR lens. I have created a gallery and posted the pics so far i took. I do not know if my gallery can be viewed by others, though i checked it to make visible to others.

BTW...........nothing wrong with the Lexar memory cards. I use two of them.

I have not heard of that before, may be never cared to wonder about the memory cards before.
Is the sigma 70-300mm DG (macro motor) any good or at least near the Nikkor 70-300 VR?

Sigma, Tamron, Nikon…You ask 3 different persons and you might get 3 different answers. The thing is I'm not aware of a person that has all 3. Usually you get one and you live with it. Is it better than the other? Who knows. I think all modern lenses are made with care and are quite good. Even within a certain brand, maybe one could be better than the other. At one point one has to make a decision and be happy. If, on the other hand, after having bought a lens you still search on internet to try to find out which is better, you might regret your decision. But even if you then get another lens, there is no way to be 100% certain that you will be getting a better lens.

If you really want the best lens, you'll have to dig into your pocketbook. Get the 70-200 2.8 VRII. This is the best.

That Sigma is the low-end of the brand.
I own a couple Sigma but they are EX - the best construction lens. If you want to try a Sigma, don't buy any lens without HSM (it's the high speed focus), lens without it are very slow to focus.
If you consider Tamron, the USM is the best focus system, although Tamron doesn't have a code for top quality lens.

There are some 3rd party lens that deliver as good as some Nikon counterparts, but as Marcel said, if you want maximum quality it'll resume to Nikon's 70-200 VRII 2.8 and 24-70 2.8.
