The D7000 is an amazing camera and I think it was the best choice you could have made for the money.

Congratulations. I think you will be very happy with your new camera. I was fortunate enough to be able to shoot with a D7000 a few weeks ago. I was most impressed by the good solid heft it had especially compared to my plasticky lightweight D5000. I didn't have time to really fiddle with the controls and shoot in manual but I did get off a few from the hip so to speak. The following picture was made with the D7000 and a 35/1.8G wide open 1/60 shutter speed and something like a whopping 6400 ISO! I think it would have been much better if I could have done it manually instead of automatic. It was dark enough that you could barely make out a person's face sitting across the table from you. This lovely couple are British expats now living in Texas who are going to retire to Belize in a few years. They were fascinating people both of them worked for Rolls Royce where they met and married some 36 years ago. Her father and grandfather both worked for Rolls Royce also.

Congrats with the purchase. D7000 is an awesome camera (friends use it), and I'm sure you won't be disappointed. Try and save up for lenses now!

That's all right aZuMi, I was just being a little sarcastic. You have bought the best camera between the two. So now it will be up to you to learn how to use it and take all the pictures you want. You will enjoy this camera for a long time.

Enjoy, and pardon me for being a little sarcastic.

I find this interesting. I know that you have already bought your new cam, congrats. I am just wondering why your buddies would suggest the D90 to you when they posess the D90 replacement, the cam you bought? This is just me, but i don't understand why someone would recommend a discontinued/replaced camera to someone. The D7k is specification/tech wise, better than the D90 - it did replace the D90 after all. I say spec/tech wise, because a D90 in the right hands is better than any camera that is in the wrong hands. But the D7k will give you so much more that you can grow into and take advantage of.

That's because, I was initially hesitant about my budget. That's why, given my affordability, they suggested me a D90. That's also what I was suggested in this thread earlier. Now, i stretched myself to the heights :)

I imagine the one good advantage to owning newer technology is with resale value...I bet you'll get more of your money back out of a D7000 than you would a D90 should you have to sacrifice the unit. Good decision. Get the camera paid for in full without affecting the other bills and immediately start saving for and studying glass cheap and expensive. You have a long exciting road ahead of you if you play your cards right!

Thanks Jeff,

Now having selected d7000, i cannot opt for a 35mm lens or a telescopic for few months. But, what comes to my mind straight away is AF Nikkor 50mm f/1.5D. Would that be a good choice?

Congrats on the new camera! The 50mm 1.8 is a sharp nice lens. Fast enough for low light. My only concern is in close quarters it is not very wide on a DX body and the 35mm is more to my liking.

Congrats........... I think you made the right choice.
The 18-105mm kit lens you're getting with the camera covers your wide angle shooting, and covers the 50mm range too. Don't worry that it's not an f/1.4 or 2.8, because the D7k is good enough in low light, that the fast lens isn't that critical. My 70-300mm is f/4-5.6 and does extremely well in very low light and high ISO, with no flash. The camera has you covered. Enjoy.......... :)

I'm just wondering if I got this right. Did you get just the D7000 body with no lens or did you get it with the 18-105 kit zoom (zoom is the name we use for telescopic)?

Hi Marcel,
Getting the camera tomorrow with kit 18-105mm lens. But for that extra bokeh, thought for 50mm.

Held up in office and can't pick it today.

You're gonna be real happy Kamesh. Its your money and you've spent it on what you want. You can only go up from here !

3 excellent recommendations jack. I use Lexar and Sandisk - they really are the bees kness

- Sandisk is normally a proven one. I have two 8GB and I've had it for years
- I also have 8GB Eyefi pro. It's fast, but the wifi capability is more for marketing than for actual use
- Lastly, just got a Patriot 32GB Class 10 for $25. It's hard to go wrong for such a cheap price and I've also heard good things about Patriot

As fotojack said, get at least Class 6. But I think everyone will prefer Class 10.
